McDonnell Announces Winners of First Annual Statewide "Legal Food Frenzy"
679,000 Pounds of Food Raised, Goal was 500,000 Pounds - Equal to over 530,000 Meals for Virginians in Need

Richmond - Attorney General Bob McDonnell today announced the winners of the First Annual Statewide "Legal Food Frenzy." The "Legal Food Frenzy" is a statewide food drive competition for the Commonwealth's legal community, and was held from April 2nd-13th. 169 law firms statewide participated in the inaugural statewide competition.

Winning the inaugural "Attorney General's Cup" for the law firm that raised the most food per capita was McGuire Woods in Norfolk. Attorney General McDonnell relayed the news in a 2PM phone call to the firm's managing partner, John Padgett. The firm raised 1338 pounds of food per capita.

Speaking about the contest Attorney General McDonnell noted, The First Annual Statewide "Legal Food Frenzy" was a terrific success. Through the generosity of Virginia's lawyers and staff, we significantly exceeded our goal, collecting the equivalent of over 530,000 meals for hungry Virginians. I congratulate the winners, and the entire Virginia legal community, for such a positive and successful philanthropic effort. This event demonstrates what is best about Virginia, the goodness of our citizens.  We live in the most generous nation on earth, and Virginia's legal community has demonstrated their giving spirit. I look forward to an even greater competition next year."

The Virginia State Bar Association partnered with the Federation of Virginia Food Banks and Attorney General Bob McDonnell for the statewide food/fund drive. The Attorney General specifically wishes to thank Katja Hill, Co-Chair of the Legal Food Frenzy Project of the Virginia Bar Association and a lawyer at LeClair Ryan in Richmond; Chris Gill, Co-Chair of the Legal Food Frenzy Project of the Virginia Bar Association and a lawyer at Christian & Barton in Richmond; and Matt Cheek, the Chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Virginia Bar Association and a lawyer at Williams Mullen in Richmond, for their strong and tireless leadership in this effort. Finally, the Attorney General thanks the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association for their vision in initiating the Hampton Roads "Legal Food Frenzy" in 1990, and providing guidance for the first statewide effort this year.

The Federation of Virginia Food Banks is a state association of food banks affiliated with America's Second Harvest—The Nation's Food Bank Network and is one of the largest hunger relief networks in the State.  The Federation is composed of the 7 regional Virginia and Washington DC food banks, consisting of facilities in 14 strategic locations.  The Federation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation created to support the food banks in providing food, funding, education, advocacy, and awareness services and programs throughout the Commonwealth.
